You can totally jazz these up with more flavor (there are so many herbs and spice blends you could use), so feel free to tweak the seasonings to your preference! How do you get crispier sweet potato fries? I season these fries up with a bit of onion powder, paprika, salt and pepper and that’s really all they need. Sweet potatoes are not only healthy, but they are loaded with delicious flavor. Of course, you can skip this step and the sweet potato fries will still come out delicious. This helps to remove some starch from the fries. I often slice up my fries and soak them in a bowl of cold water in the fridge well in advance so I can get right to cooking when I get home from work. I do suggest soaking the sweet potato fries in water for at least 30 minutes but you can do this for much longer. That makes them a great option for a quick dinner. The fries take 10 minutes to cook up a batch and the steps seriously could not be any easier. I cooked them until they got crispy on the outside. I gave it a little shake to make sure the fries were spread out and returned the basket to the air fryer. I sat it on a heat safe surface and carefully poured my seasoned fries into the air fryer basket. When it beeped to let me know it was up to temperature, I opened it up and removed the air fryer basket. I mixed everything up in the bowl, as described above, while the air fryer was preheating. So I did that! I preheated to 380 degrees. My new air fryer strongly recommends preheating first in the user manual. Feel free to try that, but my family prefers a little oil. You can go thinner or fatter than I did, but just keep it semi-consistent. This can vary, based on the width of your potato. Next, I sit one half up on the flat side, and I start cutting slices. I do this by cutting off the skinny ends, and then cutting the sweet potato in half, right through the thickest part of the potato in the middle. You can peel it if you want, and I sometimes do. Food scales are so handy! If you don’t have one, I would recommend getting one. Mine was sixteen ounces, weighed on a food scale.
